Last night we defeated Gruul. Yes we've done it before. Yes we've done it easily before.
But how many times did it take us last night? We had 7 true attempts, not counting the bad pull. That means that before going after him our final time, everyone knew that we'd attempted the fight 6 times and failed.
It reminds me of someone trying to parallel park in a space. I've parallel parked many times before. It isn't all that difficult once you've done it for a while. But lets say you go to turn into a space, and you cut it too hard. You pull back out and try again. Still you can't get in there right. A third, fourth, fifth time. You still can't get in there.
How many of you would give up at this point? I know I would. I'd walk an extra 3 blocks than sit there all day trying to park into that space. Well last night, knowing that it was our final attempt, we went in there and got the job done. The driver behind us was flicking us off, and we knew we only had one more go before he went postal on us. And we parked right up 3 inches away from the curb and got to blow a kiss to that asshole driver behind us.
Determination in a raid is not something that can be taught. Every raid is going to have "one of those nights." The key is to not give up. Usually a raid goes downhill on a boss after around the 3rd attempt. Progressively worse and worse. That did not happen last night. Everyone buckled down, and we had by far the best attempt on the final one. That's a sure sign of a strong raid mentality.
So as we start running The Eye, don't forget how important it is to stay determined. Stay hungry. That boss is one attempt away from dying. So you might as well give it your all and kick his ass. Make sure you're doing your job as well as you can. Because if we have all 25 people thinking that way, there's no way we'll be stopped.

The determination was definitely there. I was surprised to see that the raid wasn't called after there respawns. Thank goodness. We did awesome and Gruul can be a very tough fight pending placement with the shatters. We're not the only guild who has problems. It's not avoidable, it just happens. The last 3 or so attempts only failed because of bad shatters. We did really well and I had a ton of fun.
Latra and I were talking all night trying to up our dps and try to push the threat even with Salv. It was a ton of fun.
