True Damage Meters / Fight Analysis

Everyone likes to keep a set of damage meters, but everyone knows that not everything is accurate. No more. By typing the following commands, you will be guaranteed to get accurate damage meters.

/console SET CombatLogRangeParty "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangePartyPet "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayers "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayersPets "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayers "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayersPets "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeCreature "200"

That changes the range of your combat log from 40 yards to 200 yards. You won't miss any action that way.

But there's also an amazing utility called WOW Web Stats (just Google it). It will give you a summary of what goes on in a given fight.

Here are the simple steps:
  1. Go raiding, type command /combatlog in the chat window to start logging, and type /combatlog to stop logging at the end of the night.
  2. Click here to launch the WWS client
  3. Go to the Logs & Report tab, add log /logs/WoWCombatLog.txt
  4. If it is the first time you use WWS, go to the Actors tab, click Auto-update
  5. Go back to the Logs & Report tab, click Generate report, and here is your report !
It will show details for the entire night. If you want to actually show one boss fight, you can trim the logs from Moroes to Moroes. It will include everything from the time you see Moroes until the time you last see him. Essentially just the boss fight if you didn't wipe. (For Attumen, you'd set from to be Midnight, and to to be Attumen). It's a really great tool to tell you how much damage your different spells do. Wonder how much DPS you get out of a particular spell/ability? This will tell you that. It's really great for a DOT lock to see where most of your DPS is coming from.

Hopefully looking at this utility will help you analyse what you're doing, and help you make better decisions in combat.

Did you happen to log any of our attempts? I'd be interested in the results!
